On course for success

INTERNATIONAL BANKING CONFERENCE (IBC2017) “FUTURE DEVELOPMENT OF SMEs – UNLOCKING THE POTENTIAL”

The Centre for Islamic Banking, Finance and Management (CIBFM), in association with the Brunei Association of Banks (BAB) and with the support of Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD), held The International Banking Conference (IBC2017) today, Monday, 15 May 2017 corresponding to 18 Sya’ban 1438 at Indera Kayangan Ballroom, The Empire Hotel & Country Club, Jerudong, Brunei Darussalam.

The Guest of Honour at the conference was Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr.) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs as Deputy Chairman of AMBD’s Board of Directors. Also present were other members of AMBD Board of Directors; Permanent Secretaries; Foreign Embassies; senior government officials and executive officers from financial institutions.

The event started with the recital of the Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat by Yang Mulia Mohammad Fauzi bin Hj Anuar, Mosque Affairs Officer, Ministry of Religious Affairs.

This was followed by a Welcoming Address by Yang Mulia Awang Yusof bin Hj Abd Rahman, Managing Director of AMBD and Keynote Address by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr.) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong .

The theme for this conference is “Future Development of SMEs – Unlocking the Potential”. It is aimed to provide a platform for the local small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and financial institutions to share their experiences and provide new perspectives, especially from the standpoint of the development of SMEs in the ASEAN region. The conference also signifies the efforts of CIBFM and AMBD to promote Negara Brunei Darussalam as a prominent knowledge hub.

A number of local and international experts from Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and United States of America were invited to speak on related topics at the conference.

The conference was attended by more than 100 participants including financial regulators, industry players and local SMEs.
