Top experts to deliberate Islamic capital market potential

THE Brunei Islamic Capital Market (BICAM) Conference 2018, to be held from October 22-23 at The Rizqun International Hotel, will feature several insights from figures of the Islamic capital market, said Dean of the School of Graduate Studies and Professional Studies at the International Centre for Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) Associate Professor Dr Mohamed Eskandar Shah Mohd Rasid.

The conference, themed ‘Islamic Capital market: Its Role in Catalysing Economic Growth’, is recommended for capital market regulators and supervisors, local and international Islamic capital market experts as well as capital market researchers.

He made these statements during the BICAM Conference 2018 press conference yesterday. The conference will gather international experts who will share knowledge on challenges and opportunities for Islamic capital markets through keynote speeches, moderated presentations and panel discussions.

The conference is organised by the Centre for Islamic Banking, Finance and Management (CIBFM) and its event partner, International Centre of Education in Islamic Finance (INCEIF) with the support of Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD).

Manager Capital Markets AMBD Siti Nurul Hamizah binti Haji Kula, and Manager of Strategic Communications and Relations, CIBFM Julius Hong were also present at the conference.

The conference aims to draw interest from several stakeholders on the potential of Islamic capital market in encouraging the country’s economic growth, to map out ideas to facilitate the integration and synergy among key players in Islamic capital market, especially in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region and to encourage participants to instigate innovation in certain potential areas aligned with Syariah finance such as green financing, investments that adhere to Environment, Social and Governance principles (ESG), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and financial inclusiveness.

Invited international experts and speakers are Deputy Chief Executive, Securities Commission Malaysia Datuk Zainal Izlan bin Zainal Abidin, Financial Specialist, World bin Bank (Malaysia) Ahmad Hafiz Abdul Aziz, Resident Representative of Islamic Development Bank (Jakarta) Ibrahim Ali Shoukry and Head of Global Banking Business at Maybank Islamic Arshad Ismail.

President and Chief Executive Officer of the INCEIF Professor Dato’ Dr Azmi Omar will also speak at the event.
