Centre For Islamic Banking, Finance And Management (CIBFM), with the support of Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD), recently organised the first Muzakarah Ilmuan Kewangan Islam (MIKI) for the year 2020, at the Lecture Theatre, ILIA Building, UBD Campus, Jalan Tungku Link.
The forum, carrying the theme “Developing NGOs with Islamic Social Finance: Issues and Challenges”, was attended by representatives from AMBD, Bank Usahawan, Chynge Sdn Bhd, Ministry of Finance and Economics, Insurans Islam TAIB, BIBD, MUIB, Lecturers and students among others.
The forum was moderated by YM Pg Dr Haji Mohammad Hasnol Alwee bin Pg Haji Salleh, Lecturer of School of Business and Economics, University of Brunei Darussalam, with a line-up of speakers featuring YM Dr Irfan Syauqi Beik, Director of Distribution and Utilization, Badan Amil Zakat Nasional (BAZNAS), Indonesia; YM Profesor Madya Dr Dayang Hajah Rose Binti Abdullah, Deputy Chairman, Zakat Maslahat Fund Committee BIBD; YM Awang Ahmad Syauqie bin Haji Satia, President, Society for Community Outreach and Training (SCOT); and YM Awang Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Akop, Acting Secretary, Brunei Islamic Religious Council.
The forum included, an in-depth discussion on Waqf and Zakat practices; covering current practices by organisations both inside and outside of Brunei Darussalam, the opportunities for Waqf and Zakat to be developed further, as well as the challenges that Waqf and Zakat currently face in Brunei Darussalam and how to overcome them.
Muzakarah Ilmuan Kewangan Islam (MIKI) is one of CIBFM’s platform for professional open discussion on issues and trends in the Islamic Finance Industry in Brunei Darussalam, gathering Islamic bankers, Shariah advisors, academicians, regulators, and other experts to share ideas, expertise, and knowledge to their peers for the development of the industry.
