Brunei Institute of Leadership and Islamic Finance (BILIF) in collaboration with Association of Shariah Advisors in Islamic Finance (ASAS), Malaysia, recently organized the Syariah Advisory Series 2 (SAS2) with the theme Islamic Capital Market, Insights and New Innovations on 4 November 2021.
The online event, designed for the finance industry’s Syariah advisors and Syariah board members in Brunei Darussalam, began with a welcoming remark by Yang Mulia Dayang Hajah Sufinah binti Haji Sahat, Assistant Managing Director, Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB) as Acting Chief Executive Officer, BILIF. The event covered a masterclass and panel discussions from invited speakers to the event, namely Associate Professor Dr. Aznan Hasan, Chairman of the Syariah Supervisory Board Malayan Banking (Maybank) Berhad; Yang Berbahagia Professor Dato’ Dr. Mohd Azmi Omar, Member of Shariah Committee to Bank Rakyat Malaysia and Etiqa Takaful Malaysia; Professor Dr. Mohamad Akram Laldin, Member, Syariah Advisory Council (SAC) of Bank Negara Malaysia; and Professor Dr. Engku Rabiah Adawiah Engku Ali, Member, Syariah Advisory Council (SAC) of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and Securities Commission (SC) Malaysia.
SAS2 attracted almost 50 participants from various organisations following its first series held in August 2021. The event covered topics on the current state of Islamic Capital Market such as equity, fixed income instruments, and derivatives and its new innovations with the latest products and instruments offered in sukuk, Islamic crowdfunding, as well as digital assets. The event also covered the increasing importance of discussions on potential Syariah compliant issues that may arise from these new innovations and products.
