BASEL III

INTRODUCTION

From Basel I to Basel II, the transition was more of fine tuning that was not a result of any major economic shock. However, the transition from Basel II to Basel III is a direct result of the financial crisis and the journey is likely to be painful over the next 5-7 years.

The Challenges:
Implementation of Basel III is going to be challenge for most global banks as it would increase the cost of banking
Improving the banking sector’s ability to absorb shocks arising from financial and economic stress, whatever the source

The goal of this course is to provide an overview of various risks in banks, Financial Institutions, Basel II & III framework and implementation requirements. THE EXPERT

R.Muralidharan
Banker with 34 years of experience in Bank of Maharashtra, a Public Sector Bank, in different geographical locations in the country in various capacities such as Branch Manager, Chief Manager, In-charge of Fex centres, Regional Head and functional Head at bank’s head office. The assignments handled include Integrated Risk management, Foreign exchange business, Business development, retail & corporate credit, Recovery, management of retiral funds, Audit & compliance. Held concurrent charge as Chief Compliance Officer of the Bank. Headed the Finance function in the Bank’s Head office, Pune before retirement on June 30, 2011. I was Member Secretary of Asset Liabilty Committee (ALCO) and Investment Committee. Being a CAIIB (Certified Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers, Mumbai) he was an examiner for CAIIB papers. Received extensive training in banking subjects, particularly in Foreign exchange and Risk Management in India and abroad. Visiting faculty to Bank’s training college, National Institute of Bank Management (NIBM) Pune and Symbiosis Institute of Management Studies and MIT School of Business, Pune. Now living in Chennai. He is a corporate trainer in the subjects in banking, risk management and topics of current interest. A freelance Consultant and presently Senior advisor –Risk Management to a consulting company in Mumbai. Empanelled as Banking Expert by Institute of Banking Personnel Selection, Mumbai (IBPS) and work as member of interview board for selection of Probationary Officers from PSBs in India on behalf of IBPS.
