Introduction

The workshop is exclusively designed to provide a comprehensive and practical knowledge on Shariah and Legal issues in Islamic Banking and Securities Market. The programme will covering in detail all major aspects of Shariah and legal issues in both banking and capital market. The course leaders/speakers are widely recognized in their respective areas. The end focus of the workshop is to equip the participants with comprehensive, practical and up-to-date knowledge in Islamic financial system. The Expert

Prof. Dr. Engku Rabiah Adawiah is currently a Professor at IIUM Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). She is a member of the Shariah Advisory Council (SAC) of Bank Negara Malaysia and Securities commission Malaysia, and an independent Shariah advisor for Islamic securitiesissuance, approved by and registered with the Malaysia Securities Commission. She is also a member of Shariah Supervisory Board of Labuan FSA, GenRe and Labuan Re. In addition, she is also a member of the investigation tribunal for the Malaysian Bar Council. She obtained her LLB (First Class Honour) and LLB (Shariah) (First Class Honours) from the IIUM. She successfully completed her Master of Comparative Law (MCL) with distinction from the same university. She was conferred with PhD in Law (Securities Regulation) from the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom.

Megat Hizaini Hassan is a partner at Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill. An alumnus of the international Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM), he also had Master of Law (LLM) degrees from the University of Cambridge, UK, and Harvard Law School, US. He was a Cambridge Commonwealth Trust scholar at Cambridge, International Islamic University scholar at Harvard and a Royal Dutch/Shell scholar at IIUM. Megat is well versed in matters relating to Islamic banking and finance, as well as corporate legal and regulatory development. He has advised local and international clients on issues pertaining to the legal and regulatory framework, as well as matters relating to applicable Shariah standards, for Islamic financial or investment transaction in Malaysia and abroad. These include structuring and documentation of Islamic financing facilities and investment structures., He has also been recognized as one of the leading lawyers in his area of practice, through publication such as International Financial Law Review’s Guide to the World’s Leading Islamic Finance Lawyers and Expert Guides, Chamber Asia as well as Islamic Finance News’ Leading Lawyers Directory. A Co-author of The Law and Practice of Islamic Banking and Finance (Second edition published in 2010 by Sweet & Maxwell), Megat has also written on the subject for several publication. He has served as a lecturer at the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws, IIUM, and continued to teach at the same University on a guest lecture/part-time basis. He has presented at various seminars and conferences on legal and regulatory issuea concerning Islamic Finance.

Dr. Aznan Hasan is currently lecturer at IIUM Institute Islamic Banking and Finance, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He is a member of Shariah Advisory Council of Securities Commission Malaysia. He also an independent Shariah advisor for Islamic Securities issuance apprived by and registered with the Malaysian Securities Commission. Receives his first degree in Shariah from University of Al-Azhar, Egypt. Then successfully completed his Master Degree in Shariah from Cairo University with distinction ad the board of examination `has recommended that his thesis be published. He the obtained his PhD in Islamic Law from University of Wales in United Kingdom. He also serves as a member of Shariah Committee to one of the leading financial institution in Malaysia.
