Centre For Islamic Banking, Finance And Management (CIBFM), with the support of Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD), held the World FinTech Festival (WFF) in Brunei Darussalam, as part of the Singapore FinTech Festival (SFF) 2020. The event was held on Wednesday, 9 December 2020M corresponding to 23 Rabiulakhir 1442H at The Empire Brunei, Bandar Seri Begawan.
Attending as the guest of honour was Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr.) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs as the Deputy Chairman of AMBD’s Board of Directors. Also in attendance were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Hj Mohd Daud, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; Yang Mulia Dato Seri Setia Dr. Haji Japar bin Haji Mat Dain @ Maidin, Deputy State Mufti at the State Mufti’s Office; other members of the AMBD Board of Directors; CIBFM Board of Director; as well as senior officers from AMBD, government ministries and agencies, banks, private companies and higher education institutions.
The event commenced with a welcoming remark by Yang Mulia Hajah Rokiah Binti Haji Badar, Managing Director of AMBD, followed by opening remarks by His Excellency Mr. Raymond Chow, Deputy High Commissioner of the Republic of Singapore to Brunei Darussalam. The guest of honor also gave a keynote address titled Financial Technology (FinTech): A Fundamental Building Block of a Digital Economy.
Among the thematic topics deliberated during the event included the current digital infrastructure, and regulations and standards required to further expand the financial technology sector. There was also a fireside chat titled “Digital transformation in Financial Services During COVID-19 and Beyond”. Speaking during the panel discussions were local talents and industry experts including Yang Mulia Haji Hairul Mohd Daud bin Haji Abdul Karim, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Infocommunications, Cybersecurity, Strategy and Corporate), Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications; Yang Mulia Mohd Khairul Zaki bin Haji Mohidin, Assistant Executive Director, FinTech, AMBD; Yang Mulia Juswira Putra bin Haji Momin, Head, Payment System and Oversight; and Simon Hansman Head of Group Information and Technology, Baiduri Bank. Also participating online were Yong Sheng Le and Kaitlyn Thinn from Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS); Tan Chee Hau, Smart Nation and Digital Government Office; and Ajit Raikar, Co-Founder & Executive Chairman Validus.
