On course for success

BILIF HOLDS HR SYMPOSIUM 2024 THEMED “ADAPTING TO THE FUTURE: THRIVING IN A CHANGING WORK ENVIRONMENT”

1. Brunei Institute of Leadership & Islamic Finance (BILIF) organised the HR Symposium on Tuesday, 5 Zulkaedah 1445H corresponding to 14 May 2024M held at the Mutiara Ballroom, Radisson Hotel Brunei Darussalam. The event was attended by human resource (HR) professionals from both private and government organisations such as Ministry of Finance and Economy (MOFE), Department of Energy, Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB), Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD), Datastream Digital Sdn Bhd (DST) and Jerudong Park Medical Centre (JPMC), among others.

 

2. The objectives of the event themed “Adapting to the Future: Thriving in a Changing Work Environment” are to highlight the pivotal role of HRs in driving digital  transformation initiatives, embracing a growth mindset culture, and elevating employee wellbeing.

 

3. The event commenced with a welcoming remark from Haji Awang Afero Eswandy bin Haji Awang Mohamad, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, BILIF. In his speech, he emphasised that the HR landscape is constantly evolving such as the shift to remote work driven by global events and the ongoing search for talent in a competitive market. These changes cause HR practitioners to face increasingly demanding tasks. Therefore, he hoped that this event would enable the participants to benefit from the fruitful discussions that can contribute significantly to the growth and success of their respective organisations.

 

4. The event also featured a keynote presentation entitled “Adapting to the Future: Thriving in a Changing Work Environment” delivered by Dayang Hajah Sufinah binti Haji Sahat, Chief Executive Officer at BILIF. Amongst others, she highlighted the challenges and opportunities within an evolving work landscape. She underscored the pivotal role of HR professionals in navigating change and the influence of emerging technologies on the workforce of tomorrow by fostering resilience and agility as well as empowering employees.

 

5. The event was followed with another presentation on “The Role of Storytelling in Change Management” delivered by Tham Chien Ping, Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Representative & Master Facilitator, Southeast Asia. The event continued with a panel discussion on “Fostering Continuous Growth: Embracing a Growth Mindset Culture” moderated by Julius Hong, Manager, BILIF, who was joined by Awang Haji Afero Eswandy bin Haji Mohamad; Dato’ Mohd Khalis Abdul Rahim, Group Chief Human Capital Officer, Malaysia Airlines; Dayang Hajah Zainab binti Haji M A Omar, Brunei Human Resource Society Founder and President; and Awang Mohammad Najib bin Haji Annuar, Head of Organisation and Manpower Planning, Bank Islam Brunei Berhad (BIBD) as panellists.

 

6. During the afternoon session, the event continued with a special presentation on “Harnessing Technology for Talent Management in the Digital Era” delivered by Dato’ Mohd Khalis Abdul Rahim. It was then followed by a second panel discussion entitled “Elevating Employee Wellbeing: Prioritising People in the Workplace” featuring Laila Li, Country Head, Human Resources, Standard Chartered Bank Brunei (SCB); Bob Grove, Executive Director, WorkWell Leaders, Singapore; Tham Chien Ping; and Prashant Chadha, Managing Partner, Energem Advisory, Malaysia. This session was moderated by Dayang Ida Nazrena binti Haji Bujang, Senior Manager, BILIF.

 

7. The event concluded with a third panel discussion on “Future-Ready Skills: Bridging the Gap through Upskilling and Reskilling” moderated by Dayang Nur Rizqin binti Haji Sabri, Senior Manager, BILIF, who was joined by Awang Mohammad Salehin bin Haji Basir, Senior Human Capital Development Manager, Darussalam Assets Sdn Bhd; Lim Chee Gay, Group Chief Resources Officer and Executive Vice President Human Resources, TDCX, Malaysia; and Karen Ong, People Development Consultant, SMR HR Group Sdn Bhd, Malaysia.

 

8. The resounding success of the HR Symposium underscores BILIF’s commitment to advancing HR excellence and fostering a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange and professional development. The event was met with great reception from attendees, who lauded the enriching discussions and valuable networking opportunities provided throughout the event.
