LIFE: Ethics and Professional Conduct

Programme Overview

The course introduces participants to the principles of ethics and professional conduct in the financial industries focusing on Islamic finance industries. Participants will learn the principle of ethics and professionalism, Islamic ethics, ethics in organisation, leadership and ethics, and ethical dilemma.

The aim of this module as a learning guide to the LIFE Ethics and Professionalism course is to introduce participants to the concepts and the tools of ethics and professional conduct in the overall management of the organisation. With this understanding, members of an organisation will be able to identify the factors that contribute to unethical behaviour. This module will also distinguish between the elements shared by professional ethics and behavior, as opposed to the typical conduct observed in regular business practices.

Objectives

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

• Learn the overview of ethics and professionalism;
• Explain the importance of ethics and professionalism in the financial services industry;
• Example of unethical conducts in financial services;
• Identify the principles of Islamic ethics for financial services;
• Explain relevant principles in the codes of ethics for Islamic finance practitioners;
• Describe the application of code of ethics in the Islamic financial services industry; and
• Illustrate the factors for developing and sustaining an ethical culture within an Islamic financial institution.
